Action Alert: Tell the PSC we need clean energy!
Tell the Public Service Commission you want clean energy in Georgia!
Did you know that five elected officials have the power to decide whether Georgia uses fossil fuels or clean energy? The Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC) regulates public utilities, and they control where your electricity comes from and how much you pay for it.
We are in the midst of a climate emergency. Using fossil fuels to generate electricity causes about 25% of all greenhouse gas emissions. To prevent additional catastrophic climate change, we need electrical utilities to transition to clean energy sources now. However, Georgia Power is currently asking the PSC to keep coal plants open longer and to invest over $1 billion in infrastructure that would tie Georgians to fossil fuels for decades.
The PSC rarely hears directly from Georgia residents, leading Commissioners to believe we aren't concerned about our energy sourcing. One Commissioner recently claimed there are "just small pockets" of Georgians who care about clean electricity—using this misconception to justify continued votes for fossil fuels. We have the power to change this narrative by speaking up for clean energy now! We urge you to tell the PSC that they should deny Georgia Power’s request and instead require them to transition rapidly to solar, wind, battery storage, and energy efficiency programs. Clean energy is cost-effective, creates local jobs, does not pollute our air and water, and does not contribute to climate change. You can add a few sentences to the message below, or edit it to tell your own story about why clean energy and clean air matters to you.
